Roeser’s Bakery
Roeser's Bakery has been in the same family, and the same building on North Avenue, since 1911. John Roeser Sr. started it, and it's been passed down ever since, his son, then his grandson, and now his great-grandson, John Roeser IV, runs the place today. Four generations, same name, same corner of Humboldt Park.
Ask what they're known for and the honest answer is: everything. Cakes, danishes, cookies, you name it, Roeser's makes it. It's the kind of bakery that shows up for a birthday, a wedding, and a Tuesday morning all at once. But their donuts hold their own against anything on this list. Over a hundred years in, they're not chasing trends, they're still doing what's worked since 1911, and doing it well.
